Symbian Breaks Open, Likely Show Up On Netbooks Very Soon21:41 13/02/2010, shailpik, announcement, Netbook news, open source, Symbian, tablet, Netbook Expert
Symbian Foundation recently announced that Symbian has officially gone open source. That means it is now legal and free to download and tinker with Symbian’s code and release your own version with your own branding or whatever the developers want to do. Symbian has already been shown to be running in several different hardwares through [...]

With the cookie cuter sameness of Netbooks, when something, make that anything, comes out that doesn’t run Windows XP, or Starter Edition, powered by an Atom N270 (or more recently N450), it definitely makes a splash and gets us to pay attention. The Compaq Airlife 100 does break the usual mold. The 10″ LCD display, and [...]

Samsung N150 adds new colors with a catch23:52 12/02/2010, Chris Guthrie, Netbook news, Samsung n150, Netbook Reviews
Samsung just updated the N150 with 3 new colors including: Caribbean Yellow, Bermuda Blue and Flamingo Pink. Normally new colors don't offer a catch, but sadly in this case they do in the form of a $10 price increase.

My opinion? Stick with Blue, Black, Red or Black Matte and save $10.

Jolicloud updates compatibility with Pinetrail Netbooks21:40 12/02/2010, Chris Guthrie, jolicloud, Netbook news, Netbook Reviews
I met up with a couple members of the Jolicloud team while I was at CES and one of the follow up questions I asked them after the event was, "When will we see support for the new Netbooks using Intel Atom Pinetrail processors?" They told me 'soon' and sure enough a few weeks later the update is now live. For those of you that haven't tested out the Jolicloud OS yet I suggest you give it a go. For those of you not rocking a brand new Netbook using Pinetrail be sure to check out the compatibility chart first to make sure your Netbook will work with Jolicloud before you get too excited (odds are it will).

I'm interested in seeing how many people are using the Jolicloud OS on their Netbook so feel free to respond to the poll posted below:

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.
If you're already using Jolicloud on your Netbook simply go to 'My Jolicloud' and click the 'Update All' button and then reboot your machine.

Here you can find cheap Netbooks for under $300 using the new Intel Atom N450 Pinetrail processor. Or just be on the lookout for any Netbook deals posts I share. I usually write them late Friday or early Saturday.

NVIDIA ION 2 will benefit Netbooks too21:17 12/02/2010, Chris Guthrie, Netbook news, NVIDIA ION 2, Netbook Reviews
Nvidia is releasing a follow up to NVIDIA ION with Nvidia Optimus Technology built in. The major upgrade here being switchable graphics that are done on the fly. The benefit of this is that now you can play Crysis and watch HD Flash video like before, but when you're back to just composing emails and updating Facebook your battery life will be greatly improved. This is because the technology built in will be able to determine if the graphics can be rendered via the integrated GPU or if it will need to rely on the discrete Ion GPU.

At first this announcement didn't mention anything about Nvidia Optimus Technology coming to Netbooks so I ignored it, but I just read another official update from Nvidia announcing the technology is now making it's way to Netbooks as well. Hooray!
