You get to the destination and realise that something's missing or you need to change something and the application you need is on the computer back at the office.

Windows 7 on Netbooks (Asus Eee Pc)

PRESS RELEASE FROM AsusTEK:

(All comments starting with (red:) below is not part of the press realese, but my personal comments! )

October 22, 2009

Asus Equips Its Notebooks, Netbooks, Nettops and Desktop PCs with Exclusive Technologies that Take Windows 7 Further
Enhancements to Notebooks and Eee Series PCs Extend and Improve the Overall Windows 7 Experience
(Red: OK, sounds cool – but remeber that Windows 7 is a bit more heavy than Windows XP was, so it might not just be a plus when were are talking Netbooks.)

Asus, the fastest-growing notebook brand and pioneer of the Netbook, today announced that a select group of its notebooks and Eee Series PCs—including the Eee PC™, Eee PC™ Touch, EeeBox PC and EeeTop PC—will feature exclusive enhancements that are designed to extend and improve the overall Windows 7 experience. The applicable Asus notebooks, which will come installed with 64-bit versions of Windows 7, promise a level of performance and security over and beyond that of notebooks running previous versions of Windows—most notably up to 40%* faster bootups and server-level security with enhanced core protection. Similarly, Asus’ Eee Series PCs running Windows 7 will boast exclusive features that make them easier to use, faster, more energy efficient and more fun** than identically-spec’ed PCs from other brands—fulfilling Asus’ promise that “Life is Eeeasy with Windows 7”.
(Red: Yes, Windows / IS easier than XP and especially Windows Vista, AND even though that it might be a tad heavier than Windows XP on you Asus eee PC Netbook, I would still recommend it! It’s just simply better to have a modern OS than and old systm like XP taking up the space on your netbbok. And the difference is not that big – so go for Windows 7 on your next Netbook, e.g. a Asus Eee Pc with Windows 7 vs. Windows XP.)

All Asus notebooks installed with Windows 7 will run 64-bit versions of the operating system. (Red: well and by notebooks, they don’t mean Netbooks, because they actually run a 32-bit version of Windows 7 on the Asus Eee PC Netbooks..) This allows the notebooks to fully utilize the vastly-higher RAM ceiling that 64-bit Windows 7 affords—up to 128GB—dramatically improving their multitasking capabilities and processing speeds. 64-bit Windows 7-equipped Asus notebooks will boot up up to 40%* faster than competing notebooks, thanks to FastBoot technology which shortens notebook boot times to as low as 30 seconds*. Asus worked very closely with Microsoft Corp. on performance improvements in Windows 7 on Asus PCs.

The marriage of Eee Series PCs and Windows 7 is the ultimate expression of the Eee brand’s “Easy, Excellent, Exciting” mantra. Windows 7-equipped Eee Series PCs allow users to enjoy near-instant access to the web and beyond with Fast Bootup Technology. They also feature Eee Docking or Eee Bar, user-friendly shortcut bars that give users direct and intuitive access to applications and web services, as well as Asus @Vibe which serves as users’ window to a world of web-based multimedia entertainment. Furthermore, Asus WebStorage gives users additional online storage space, allowing them to easily backup and share their files. With these exclusive usability features, life is truly “Eeeasy” with Windows 7.

Compaq Mini 110

After using the Compaq mini 110 Netbook I thought of preparing a guide for those who are willing to get the new mini Netbook. I found that the Compaq mini 110 is the European equivalent to the HP Mini 110 Netbook which have been released in the US.

To start with I must say the Compaq mini 110 Netbook is smaller than any other traditional laptop. It is small and quite easy to carry. The Netbook is quite less expensive as well. While using it I found that the focus remains on connectivity which is quite good but it is not so much featured like the laptop which is bad. But I should mention that it is not at all a good option to use as an alternative of a laptop.

Designs and looks
At the first glance the Compaq Mini 110 Netbook looks quite attractive. It has a high gloss imprint finish which can be compared to the swirl deign and gives the Netbook a classy and stylish look. The length of the Netbook is 6.8”, the width is 10.3”, the height is 1.3” and the weight is 2lbs. the screen size is 10.1” which is diagonal and the keyboard is a full size one. Because of its size I found it comfortable to carry it in a back pack, briefcase and a purse.

Technical Details
Apart from the looks the technical features are also very important and I feel I should provide with the details. The Compaq Mini 110 Netbook has the features like 1.6GHz N270 Atom, the RAM is of 1GB and the hard disk drive is of 160GB. It includes other features like Wi-Fi (b/g), Wi-Fi and a Webcam.

It has a chipset of Intel 945GSE and the navigation resolution of 1024 x 576 (WSVGA/LED). With its Integrated Intel Media Accelerator 950 Video Card and 128MB Shared Video Memory it enables listening to music or watching videos and movies. The memory speed is DDR2 533. There is no S-Video out but it has HDMI out. The VGA Webcam is inbuilt and it is of 1.3M. It has 5 in 1 in built card reader. The inbuilt wireless devices are of 802.11b/g.

The battery of Compaq Mini 110 Netbook is a type of 3-Cell Lithium-Ion and it lasts for 2 hours at a stretch. There is no second battery available in the Netbook. 3 USB 2.0 Ports are available in it along with in built Bluetooth module. It has 2 in built speakers and 2 audio Jack Ports.

Functions and Performance
The compact Compaq Mini 110 Netbook seems to me very exciting because of its user friendly characteristics. I can’t deny that it has the ultimate connectivity and portability and thus making internet surfing much easy. With its video card features it allows the basic internet functions like email, chatting along with web conferencing and talking over the internet.

The most brilliant performance which I found in the Netbook is its ability to wirelessly sync with the PC. This is very useful and it enables the latest updates and files to save in both the places with Syncable software.
I have also mentioned earlier that the key board is stretched 92 percent to the edges and with the spacious placement of the keys it enables comfortable typing for chatting, working and even playing games. The manufacturers have left the touch pad unchanged with mouse buttons on both the side of the touchpad.

While talking about the functions and its performances I feel it is important to let you know that the Compaq mini 110 Netbook is welcome with Windows XP only. The Linux SKU is not available to use with this net book. Its audio port functions for both the head phone and the mic. The 3 cell battery net book provides about 2 hours of video play back.

Price
The price of the Compaq mini 110 net book is £ 259.00.

Comments
I personally find the features and the performances quite well going and it is worth keeping as an asset. Though the price is a little bit high, keeping in point its technical characteristic and stylish lineaments I think it is worth paying the price for the Compaq Mini 110.

If there’s one car name that is synonymous with luxury, speed, and style, it’s Ferrari. A Ferrari is the car that all of us speed junkies would love to race up and down the Autobahn in Germany. Now what if you could have that same speed, luxury and style, but in a Netbook?

Loading the Windows operating system on any kind of computer has always involved floppy disks, CDs or DVDs. That’s kind of a problem if you want to load Windows on a Netbook. Unless you buy an external CD/DVD-ROM, which isn’t cheap for one-time use, you are out of luck trying to install Windows on your Netbook or ultraportable notebook.
